  1. Truthfully we are retired. We have been conservative.

Now we are not in the bind that many are.

We saved & today we live off of our savings & interest earned on it.

While some of our friends spent as they earned it.

With no thought of tomorrow. ~~~~ Live & learn.

  2. We had chores at home and got 50 cent on Friday night. This was our allowance for the week.My sister and I were not allowed to go to the movies. As a matter of fact I don't remember anyone in our neighborhood going to the matinee' on Saturday.     Poppy

  3. Baby-sat my little brothers, did the dishes, washed/waxed my father's car - I was the oldest and the only girl - there was always chores for me to do to make a little money. (when it was to be had)

  4. i had a paper route when i was 11!!! i was the richest kid on the block!!!

  5. My first job, even before lawn mowing and paper route, was picking up pop bottles from the side of the road.  I would wash them and take them to the neighborhood grocery and Mr Roberts would give me 2 cents for each one.  It only took a couple of hours if you new where to look, so I always had movie and candy money in my pocket.

  6. I was a physical therapist : )  I really was.  There was an older lady that lived at the end of my street.  She had a stroke and was left partially paralyzed down one side of her body.

She would have me come over after school and I would "exercise" her bad arm and fingers.  We had a little routine that she had devised, while this was going on we would chat and slowly we became friends.

She had several other of the girls in my neighborhood that had done this before, but they quit her because she could be very cantankerous.

So I knew going in it wasn't going to be much fun.  But as I got to know her and realize what was going on in her life, I began to really care for her.  I think it was one of the best jobs I had as a young kid.

  7. We had at least 10 apple trees in our yard and my brother and I would bag up apples and go around the neighborhood selling them 10 cents apiece . . .5 bags would get us both in the show, and a 6th would get us candy !  The Tarzan movies were my favorite !

  8. mowing lawns (hand mower that is)

  9. Before I was working age, it was baby-sitting. I also shoveled neighbor's sidewalks in the winter & mowed lawns in the summer.

  10. Baby sat, carried meal trays to the Pt's. upstairs in the rest home next door, Then worked till I finished high school as a nurses aide.

  11. I am retired and don't have work.

  12. Dad always had a quarter for me.  Guess the parents wanted there own matinee.

  13. at age twelve i worked for a farmer doing a mans work for $2 a day from sunup to sundown. at age 13 until i enlisted in the U S NAVY i worked for the same guy on a hay baling crew all day until after dark sometimes for $4 a day. my father was an invalid and i was the sole support of a family of 9 including my parents my siblings and myself. if i was fortunate i got 30 cents for a movie and popcorn on saturday night.

  14. cashier

  15. I remember the cost of admission was .35 cents. Mom would readily give that to us just to get us out of her hair for the afternoon.

I used to mow lawns and shovel the snow off driveways for extra cash. Babysitting always seemed to go to the girls.

The BEST way to make extra money was seasonal ... Xmas caroling!
