I am 18 and would really like a job at a one of three nearby car dealerships. I don't want to be a car dealer (don't think I can be one anyways), but what other types of jobs could be made available for responsible teens like me?

  1. Wiping the floors and greeting customers.

  2. Washing the cars, maybe some janitorial work.

  3. There's positions for people called "lot attendants." Some dealerships call them by another title.

Basically you are responsible for moving cars around the lot - whether it's rearranging them or bringing them from back lots to the main lot. Parking cars after test drives. Gassing them up. Washing them (sometimes) after a sale. Removing or putting on the stickers. Running errands or doing what's called "dealer trades." That's where you take a car from our lot and trade it for a car from another dealership.

They hire anyone whose 18 and older and has a clean driving record. Almost any dealership will hire you. They always need people. So if one dealership treats you badly then go to another one. You won't even need to put in 2 weeks notice. Dealerships don't work that way.

    Good luck to you!

  4. Lot attendant (parking cars), cashier, receptionist or parts runner.  All not-so-great jobs that will put your foot in the door.
