  1. The fact that I can see visible progression with my skill level and constantly being challenged.  I also feel a lot better phsyically and have more stamina when I train consistently.  PLus, the camaraderie in the dojo is great.  No politics, just real people passionate about learning the art

  2. thinking about it during work, then when I'm done I just wanna do capoeira soooo much

  3. I get to break boards, spar, muay thai, kickboxing, nunchuckas, ecrimas, I love it all , and it is really good exercise

  4. It is fun, it doesn't feel like work.

It keeps me in shape, makes me strive to be better, it pushes me to my limits endurance wise, and yet it never feels like work.

It just feels fun. I enjoy it.

    Simple enough to me.

  5. What keeps me interested is the little workout flutter I get deep in my gut. When I practice martial arts, I'm using many parts of my body and stretching my limits. It's like a warm breath stuck at the base of my stomach. I love the feeling of pushing myself farther and longer than I ever have!

  6. As a wrestler in college, I am training for the olympic try-outs this June. Im only a sophmore so I don't think i will make the cut this year, but it has been my dream since I started wrestling to be an olympian. I have a shot at my dream, and im not going to let that fade away. I will try out for the next olympics, too.

  7. Watching UFC fights

  8. It was literally the first thing that I took that I felt I was good at. I never felt awkward being in the class. Even when I was very new.

  9. Two reasons.

    1. To protect the people I care about or those that I can help and

    2. To continue to further honor my Sabumnim, who's countless hours of training and tireless dedication to his and my art made who I am possible today.

  10. There is always ways room to improve. There are new things to become skilled at. The people I train with are interesting and have become my friends. I meet new people. I get a sense of satisfaction helping my students. Mt health has improved a lot.

  11. My own personal philosophy keeps me involved in martial arts.

My interests in martial arts dates back to the 1980's, but I really became interested in MMA after watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 1993.

In the last couple of years, I've changed a bit, and so have my personal goals - and I've recently taken up an art with little application to mixed martial arts - Aikido.

There's something about Aikido - the way the art helps you end a conflict while minimizing harm to yourself and the other person - that aligns with who I am today.

Some people take martial arts for self-defense/see how much butt they can kick/feeds their ego - I just try to have fun and learn.

  12. not gettin my *** kicked on the ghetto

  13. I began my training in 1967 and it quickly became an obsession. All I could do was to think or train all the time. While in college in 1973 I opened my first dojo. Since that time I have continued to study and teach the martial arts. Next month I celebrate 41 years of training.

What keeps me interested is simple. Many times through the years I was at a point where I thought I really understood what I practiced. Then there would be a period of time where I would see things in a different light and would begin to understand the techniques I do with increased understanding. This has happened many times through the years.  Each time it happens my application of the techniques has improved. This has resulted in me using techniques more effectively while at the same time using less and less power to make them work. While many martial artists get to a point where they believe that they know all the answers, I understand that by keeping an open mind my abilities will continue to improve in the future. Training is always new and an opportunity to better understand what I do.

  14. I teach my art therefore I need to practice and perfect it.

  15. For one, the fact that it is the most awesome coolest thing I could ever do.

Second, and just as important (or more so).  I have tons and tons left to learn.   I can always improve and there is always more to learn.

Plus the fact that is it extremely enjoyable, even when getting beat up by my Sifu.

  16. My job.
