Question:

What kind AND amount of exercise is needed to keep generally healthy and keep the mind sharp?

Id like to be more mentally alert and i realize that you can't simply get involved in mentally stimulating activities all time in order to achieve this, so what kind of exercise is needed, or what kind of exercise do you do to keep your mind sharp?

  1. Read  a few chapters a day.  Get  at least 20 to 25 min of cardio a day.


  2. It varies from person to person--there are all kinds of exercises that can sharpen different aspects of your mental abilities. There are lots of games and puzzles these days to exercise memory, concentration, problem-solving, etc.. There isn't really a prescribed amount of activity to get to a certain point. Just find a mentally challenging activity you enjoy, and do it regularly. :)

    As with other types of diet and exercise, variety is probably a good thing, so if you want to sharpen multiple aspects of your mind, try a variety of activities!

  3. Cardio.  Usually twice a day will do the trick.  If you're a student, the best time is in the mornings and after classes.  Even as little as 15-20 minutes will yield life changing results.

    Another important thing I'm going to add in here (b/c it relates) has to do with your diet.  Make sure you identify your energy sources for good results.  If you are a carb person (caffeine & sugars) you don't have to worry so much.  But if you're not, make sure that you are getting regular protein throughout the day for good results with this.

    Regarding mental exercises, you have to mix it up.  Do some analytical critiquing, problem solving exercises and some reading comprehension work.  You can get all of these in LSAT prep books!
