What kind and brand of litter do i use to teach new kitties for the first time?

I just learned that I need to use clay litter. I looked some up, and it said tidy cat clay litter isn't good for kittens under 6 months. And is the disposable litter pans a good size to start them on?

This is the 3rd question I've asked, and i appreciate all of your help.

  1. I was never told that you had to use a specific litter for kittens. I just read an article that said that clumping litter can get into a kittens eyes and cause infection. I would suggest buying a non-clumping litter at first until the kittens are old enough for  the clumping kind.

  2. I have a weak stomach, so I got Scoop Away for my kitten. He's been using it since he was 1 month old (I got him from animal control and he was found alone, so don't fuss at me for not leaving him with his mommy for 8 weeks).

Anyway, he's been fine with that. Make sure that whatever litter pan you get has at least a section of it that's low enough for the cat to jump in and out comfortably.

I have a hooded cat litter pan that my kitty has always used with no complaint. But yes, a disposable pan is fine if you can afford them.

  3. We just put in a cat door and put the litter pan outside the door.  After a few months the cat learned to go outside.

Anyways if the kittens are real little they will follow the mom in litter training.  I used a regular sized litter pan but I put a little stoop up to it so the kittens could climb in easy.  The best litter I have ever found has been special kitty at wal-mart.  Use a little deoderizer with it and it is great holds the smell and clots well...

  4. Throw them outside and they will just use your neighbors potted plants.
