Ok, I am 11 years old. My mom says she will let me babysit. What age group of children do you recommend that I start out with??? Our neighbors have a 6 month old baby and everyone seems to think I do well taking care of her. Please answer!

  1. Is it even legal for an 11 year old to babysit? I think you would be better with a 6 year old, certainly not a 6 month old.

So you would be the mothers helper? is the mother still there? I still think an older child would be better with you being so young.

**there ARE legalities when it comes to leaving children under a certain age alone!!!

  2. I don't think it's legal for an 11 year old to babysit.  No offense, but I would NEVER leave my baby with anyone that young.  I don't think I'd want anyone under 16 with my baby.

Edit:  And yes it does have to be legal.  If something happens to anyone's child, YOU are responsible and your parents may also get into trouble for letting you do this.

  3. I think the best place for an 11 year old to start is babysitting when the mom is home - like a helper - that way you can do everything but she's right there if you need help. In this situation any age child would be fine.

  4. six months is a little young for you to baby sit try 3, 4 or 5 year olds....believe me with the parents around it's a lot easier to take care of the baby but by yourself it would be a little over whelming......also you should check the internet for babysitting classes they should have them in your area maybe you could get certified in CPR from the red cross check there web site for places you can do it.......i hope this helps sweetie have fun!

  5. Yes you are able to babysit at age 11! to the person who said is it even ilegal but any way what i would do first is start with the 5 year olds and 1ce you turn like 13 you can start babysitting babies !! I babysit and am 14

  6. not babies.  not toddlers, either.  try preschool or older.

but you should take a cpr/ first aid class and you should start as a mother's helper with the parent still at home.

keep in mind that if the kid choked and stopped breathing you would be solely responsible for keeping them alive, which is not a responsibility your typical 11-year-old is ready for.

  7. For Samira, there is no legal age for babysitting.

I think if you ask to just take care of the baby for the day while the parents were there so you can get a feel for what shes like, then you'd be better prepared. But like a 3-6 would be much easier for you.
