  1. I bet your fitting for the tank is 3/4" or 1" NPT pipe fitting whereas your fitting for the hose is a smaller compression fitting. I would measure the diameter of the fitting on your tank and your hose to a DIY store like Home Depot. I'm sure they have an adapter.

  2. Why fool with the old tank?  Take it down to a home center, grocery store, etc., that will exchange you old, empty one for a  full one.  Most of the time it's less than $20.  Any exchange you get will have the proper valve.

  3. YOU CAN'T LEGALLY!  The old style valve on your tank MUST be replaced with the new style

Besides, NO reputable company will fill a tank that size UNTIL the valve is changed.

(Doing so, if caught, will get them a fine, loss of license, and possibly jail time!!)

The new valves are only about $15.00 installed at most propane dealers.  Get a new valve.

  4. the do make a adapter I think they sell them at home depot or Lowe's and the poster before me is correct those tanks cannot be refilled so when its empty its junk and you will have to get a new style opd valve
