I want to go to Virginia Military Institute. I have like a 3.6 or 7 but i was wondering what kind of times i would need to run by my senior year in track and cross country for them to want me to come run for them. Not a scholarship or grant or anything. Just run for them for free.

  1. 800: 2:00

    mile: 4:35

    2 mile: 9:50

    5k: 16:40

  2. lol, I received several scholorships to run the half mile,,

you HAVE to hit 1.52-4  for the 800 anything more is laughable to be considered for any type of scholorship.

and for the mile, thats a bit more flexible, 4.10-20

If what your looking for is training, contact the track coach to the colleges that you want to attend, they will be very interested that you took the time to call them,  and I can promise you they will help.

these guys want great students!!!!  and cats that are serious,

  3. i think the guy above me is right except maybe 1:57 for 800

  4. It largely depends on the needs of the track program and how many roster spots are available. As long as you are good enough to be competetive in college level meets, most coaches will take you if there is room on the team, especially if you are a good student as well.

I ran against VMI quite often when I was in college, and I recall seeing a few good mid-didtance guys, and a lot of guys who were 1:56, 4:25 type guys. Good, but not great. I would guess that most of them did not run that fast in HS.

I was a walk-on at my college, which had a much better program than VMI, and I ran a 1:56 in HS.

  5. I'm not sure how good of a running school VMI is but in virginia the people that have recieved scholorships have gotten the following times. 800 Logan Collins 1:52 Virginia Tech, Mile Peter Dorrell 4:11 2 Mile 9:06 5k 15:16 William and Mary so i would expect that you would need about a 1:52-54 in the 800 a 4:10-4:25 in the mile 9:00-9:30 in the two mile and a sub 16 in the 5k. O I just saw that VMI signed two milers one ran a 4:25 the other ran a 4:27
