Question:

What kind of AC could I get for a sliding glass vertical window?

I am moving into an apartment without central heat and air. There is a wall unit in the living room, but I seriously doubt it will cool the entire apartment. I am looking to install a window unit in my bedroom, but its a vertical sliding glass window instead of a window that opens up. Where could I find an air conditioner that will fit or how could I get around this problem? Will I need to install a new window? Is there some kind of AC that doesn't require a window or to be connected to the outside? What is my best cooling option?

  1. The way to do this is quite simple, but getting permission from the landlord may be the hard part..You set the ac in the window..slide the window next to it...Then you will have to literally drill a self tapping s***w( a few of them actually) into the actual frame to keep it snug against the window..then above it you will have to get some exterior plywood or a sheet of tin cut..oaint it to match the outside and inside and s***w it into the frame too...It is then done..If the landlord approves get it in writing..If you want to do it without saying anything, this is your choice, but be prepared not to get your security deposit back when you move..actuall I do not recomend that..If I was a landlord of this apartment I woudl probably swing a deal with you and allow you to do it..or even possibly put it in for you so you would be comfortable as long as you agree to leave the ac there when you move..this way I would have no cost in repairs when you moved...You can get a window ac new now days on sell for around 89.99 to 125.00..I would glady sacrifice that amount and agree to leave the unit there..than I would suffer a summer, or have a security deposit taken away that will be more than what the ac is worth..thisway you also have a good realtionship between tenant/landlord..and everyone is happy..

  2. just shop around, go on walmart.com or home depot or even bestbuy to look at them, they do make one's that will fit, i bought one a few years ago for my mom when she moved in to her townhouse. Good luck, they may be on clearence now too since summers almost over
