What kind of American- Made Street legal (NY) Scooter/Mopeds are there, and where can I buy one?

Question

I'd rather buy a scooter as a second vehicle for commuting to and from school, and anywhere where I'm not driving with passengers

im not put off by motorcycles, but they are usually heavier and i want the most economical mode possible (beside train or bus, my schedule can't handle waiting for a train or bus)

so if anyone can tell me where or what company (doesn't have to be an american company, just one with alot of american employees) i can get a scooter or economical motorbike from it would be freakin awesome

i would like one to but i saw someone with one a week ago with all the cars around them. it  looking scary for them it seemed like there walking in the street with traffic. best of luck be safe

I'm not sure if any scooter companies are based here OR have a lot of American employees.  Since we as consumers turned our noses up at scooters a long time ago, the market hasn't really existed in the US.  Most scooter companies are European or Asian.

The closest you could get would be Honda, but their scooters aren't made here either
