well i have a bike that's from ***** and i normally ride a we the people... i already customized the WTP but now im working on buying after market parts for the bike i got from ***** and i'm running into problems with the crank BB... since it originally had a one piece crank, it has that BB system that has unsealed bearings and i wanna change it to a 3 piece. Since a 3 piece crank has bearing pressed into the frame, i don't know which BB system to buy for it? like which BB system fits the 1 piece crank size??? Like mid or American or what??

  1. It depends on what your bb shell is.  If your one-piece has threaded cups, then you'll have to buy a "euro" threaded bottom bracket and a crankset to match.  You won't buy a 3-pc crank like what fits in most bmx bikes.

However, if your one-piece has pressed in bearings instead of threaded cups, then you probably just need to buy an American-sized bottom bracket.  Choose your cranks and then make sure you order the bottom bracket that has bearings with the right size hole to match the spindle that comes with the cranks.

There's an off chance you have another size bearing in there (like Spanish.....almost certainly not a Mid)....you just have to measure them to see.   My bet is that you have threaded cups, though.

Hope that helps you out.....if you need more, post up again.  Also, you might read the "cranks" part of the FAQ section at Dan's Comp....has good pictures and a decent explanation of the different setups.   Good luck!

  2. it depends on the size of your BB shell.
