  1. I'd guess they'd call it a 'sitting Buddha'. The Buddha. Remember, there's a difference from a Buddha, and the Buddha.

  3. This statue represents Amitabha Buddha. The article at Wikipedia on Amitabha (link below) has several images of this Buddha, showing him both standing and seated.

    In most representations of Amitabha, his hands are in a mudra (hand position), with the right hand raised and the left hand touching the ground.

    The raised right hand shows that he is teaching, while his left hand touching the earth shows his connection to the historical Shakyamuni Buddha.

    Amitabha is said to have lived long before the historical Buddha. Mahayana Buddhists call upon Amitabha Buddha to convey them to the "Pure Land" -- otherwise known as enlightenment.
