  1. I'm assuming you must be either in high school or university.

In that case, I wouldn't worry too much about your look -- young people tend to dress rather similar to Americans, Brits, Australians -- jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, etc.  Shoes like Vans are quite popular

I would avoid shorts (while people are wearing capris a bit these days, shorts are still pretty much inexistent except for when working out) or sports-type clothes (no big Adidas sweatshirts, for example).   Also to be avoided are white sports-style tennis shoes (unless you are actually wearing them to play sports).

    Otherwise, don't worry about it.

If you still need to be reassured, why not check out a couple of French store sites to see what they are selling?  Here are a couple of links for you:

  2. we wear exactly the same clothes as other Europeans, as Americans, as Australians...I don't understand why people worry so much about what they wear when they come here? you can wear what you want, people won't notice you.

  3. Hey :)

I'm French so I can try to help you...

    Let's say you're a guy.

Check out these websites & you'll see how most of French guys get dressed.

But don't worry, Australian style ain't that different !

And if you have the Surfer style (stereotype, sorry if you don't get dressed like that...) well let me tell you that we love it <3

But once again, don't forget that these guyz are model, so they're handsome, well-dressed... But everyone's not like them :)

Hope I gave you a few ideas!

Have a safe trip, where are you going by the way?

  4. People never think of hair - For men it's ok - but for sure when you see some kinds of ugly types of white women hair-dressings, sure they are stranger .

  5. France is a fashioned country, so you can wear the way you want...

but it's colder than Australia, so don't forget it...

  6. I assume that you are a man.  If not, sorry, just lmk and I can change the answer.  Men's clothes in the western world are about the same.  But to answer your question:

Frenchmen tend to wear good fitting (not skin tight) shirts and trousers.  Not baggy pants, baggy shorts or backwards baseball caps.  Most tend to not wear running shoes except for tradesmen, construction workers, etc.  Many will wear leather jackets.  French shoes look a little different from shoes in the US, Australia, etc. and you'll have to look at the shoes when you get there to know what I mean.    They do wear jeans but tend to not wear jeans with sport coats (as in the US).  For some reason, ppl think that French ppl wear berets when in fact, only WW2 veterans wear berets.  You will get a better idea of the clothes that ppl wear when you get there.  Don't be too nervous.  If you have nice clothes, you should be fine and you can always buy some clothes there.
