I am pretty sure all I need is a 4yr degree. I know I have to pass a state test and all, but I just want to make sure that all I need is a 4 yr or a 6 yr I just need to know degree length. I prefer to teach middle school if that matters! Thanks for the help!

  1. Some states require a masters in education as well as a license.  Check with your state's licensing board.  In some areas, if you can teach math and science, you can get licensed since they are in short supply.

  2. It depends where you live.  In Ontario you need a minimum BA/BS and then your BEd or MEd.

  3. Anna P is right. Some states reguire a master degree and  license.  You can also teach with a B.A. degree. There are teachers who teach but are not certified but it is to your advantage to be certified.

  4. It really depends on the state, but in NC you can teach with a 4 year degree.  If you want to teach Middle School then you will have to take 2 years of basic studies and then after you get into the school of education you will take certain "Education" classes along with classes related to what you want to teach.  For example, if you want to teach either Science or Math, you would take 20some hours in upper level Math and 20some hours in upper level Science classes.  In order to get into the School of Education you will need to have a certain score on the Praxis one which you should take in the 1st semester of your Sophmore year (at some scores your SAT will count for this test if it is high enough).  Then before you graduate you will need to take the Praxis 2 in the areas you want to teach.  Hope this helped...if you have anymore ?'s the universities include requirements, etc on their sites.

  5. There are several that include, elementary education, early childhood education, middle school and subject area degrees that are designated for high school students.  Subject areas can include, art, history and/or science, etc.  Since you are interested in middle school, you might want to look at the middle school and other subject areas that you might be interested in teaching.  The best way to determine what is available is to look up the college you are interested in attending and ask them to send you information regarding your interests in teaching.  Good luck
