Question:

What kind of Discounts are teachers entitled to?

I know that sometimes presenting one's Teacher ID can get them discounts at Museums and that Teachers have their own rewards program at Staples. Does anyone else know of any other places that teachers could show their ID's and save?

  1. My husband is an elementary teacher. We haven't found any discounts. Some places claim to give discounts, but this usually comes with attachments like so many purchases, etc.

  2. Not as many as people seem to believe.

No museum near me offers such a program. The office supply stores discount program is not really a discount. It is a volume purchase program. They know we spend tons on our own classroom - and when we reach a certain limit we get a credit. They will sometimes send me coupons - but usually for things I have no need for. The truth is - I never show my card when I go there - it gets me nothing.

The one I have used is the apple program - apple computers usually knocks off about a hundred bucks off a new system - but thats a once every many years purchase.

  3. Barnes and Noble offers a teacher's discount card. Office Max offers discount cards, too, but they have to be in your district's name.

  4. 10 or 15%, it's the Law!

  5. Barnes and Noble has an educator card that entitles you to 20% off any book that can be used in your classroom.  Romance novels, no...but anything that can qualify as an educational book and/or children's book/novel for high school will get 20% off.  This discount does not apply to textbooks.

There are some museums that do allow discounts if you call and arrange a visit because you may want to visit there for a field trip.

don't forget about scholastic book clubs.  even if you don't order from there with class orders, you can order through them and earn points with every purchase you make.  those points will buy you things from children's books/novels and teacher materials.

  6. No as many as they rightfully deserve.

I am an army ranger for 18 years and I salute teachers for doing all they do for no money, taking all they must take, and being at, near, or slightly above poverty level. They deserve more benefits of any kind.
