  1. In general, pediatricians do not deliver babies.

Not to say that they could not, but it is not required.

I always thought that I wanted to be a pediatrician, until I got to medical school and had to witness the c**p (karma) to which children were subjected. (It is true that the sins of the father are visited on the children for three generations.)

I found that I could do more to help children by helping keep mothers healthy.

    Good Luck

  2. Obstetrician.

Its a scary thought having you deliver babies if you don't know that...

  3. Ordinarily pediatricians do not deliver babies. Good thing, too, because babies come out very slippery.

As a pediatrician you may be required to attend high risk deliveries, those where the fetus or newborn is at risk. The obstetrician or nurse will pass the baby to you immediately after birth and you will attend to the baby on the resuscitation unit equipped with lights, radiant heaters, suction, oxygen, skin probes and other stuff. We affectionately refer to this unit as the "hot dog stand."

  4. unless there is a problem, in the UK it's normally a midwife

  5. An OB/GYN (obstetrician/gynecologist) delivers babies. The obstetrician part is an unborn baby doctor and delivers babies. The gynecologist part is a doctor for the female parts. A pediatrician is a doctor who specializes in medicine for children and babies after they are born.

  6. Many general practitioners deliver babies in areas where there are not many obstetricians. Pediatricians are generally called in after th birth. Emergency room doctors deliver babies, as does any doctor in the case of an emergency. You have to go through all the specialty rounds anyway.
