What kind of Fuel does a TDI run off of?

I've been looking into buying a TDI, specifically a VW Jetta TDI, but im having a problem understanding the concept.

what kind of gas/fuel does it use?

and what matience is required for it?

A VW Jetta TDi is a diesel, it will run on diesel fuel.  Using diesel in an automobile is relatively uncommon in the United States because of emissions standards lately, but its much more common in Europe.  If you check out the link below, there's some news about the new 2009 VW Jetta TDi.

Maintenance as a rule is required a little more often, but a properly maintained diesel engine will run forever :)
