  1. They use military GPS receivers (sold to Russia by US some time ago)

    and GLONASS as well.

  2. Wolverines!!!!!

  3. they still use a old fashioned compass, with the needles removed.

  4. I'm willing to bet they use a compass and a map.

  5. Yes it is a Russian glonass.

  6. Global Orbiting Navigation Satellite System, yes.

    Like GPS

By 2010 they should be back up to 24 satellites.

You will not find many consumer recievers or single use recievers for it but some military and dual use revievers can get data from both systems.

There are some pictures of their recievers here.

  7. i would love one for my cats so i could catch them eating birds

  8. The GPS system we normally think of was setup by the US government and thus it is not available to Russian military forces.  This is also why commercial GPS units are not as accurate as military ones.

The Russian military operates GLONASS - Global Navigation Satellite System.  See the links below for some history on it.

There seems to be some confusion about the distinction between the military and civilian GPS bands by one of the answerers.  The codes for the military bands are not releasable to foreign nationals and would not have been sold to Russia. Knowledge of those codes could be used to jam or spoof GPS guided weapons.
