I'm looking for a brand new TV and need some opinions. I'm looking to spend around 2,000 and wanna get a 52 - 54 inch.

I'm just not sure about DLP, LCD, 1080i,1080p and all that technical stuff. I use my TV for movies, sports and Games(X-Box 360).

Any help Welcome!!!

  1. LCD widescreen HDTVs are more affordable than Plasma widescreen HDTVs.

1080p means it is fully HDTV. It refers to resolution.

  2. I would go with a Samsung. I have a 50" samsung plasma, and the display is beautiful. Not to mention they look great in your living room.

You should start out with going to Best Buy.. they'll be able to answer all your questions for you.

  3. You want to get 1080p (the p stands for progressive scan).

Most people recomend LCD TVs since they're durable and don't suffer from "burn in", which some plasma and projection screen TVs can experience.

However, you can chuck a remote control at a plasma screen and it won't interrupt the picture because of the plastic covering.  LCD screens will warp from pressure and magnetic force.

Also, plasma can display pure black much better than an LCD screen, so if you're watching Hi def movies or gaming, you may have a better quality of color (this is dependent on the color settings, of course).

  4. If LCD Samsung or Sony 1080p are the top sets. Plasma go for Panasonic. Pioneer makes the best set but will be out of your price range. I wouldn't recommend DLP. You want at multiple HDMI inputs. If you play xbox alot go wih LCD.
