What kind of ID can I use to travel by plane in the States if I don't have a driver's license or a passport?

You really should go to the DMV and get a state I.D. card...you can use this for many things and it is an offcial. government issued form of I.D. If you are flying in a day or two and do not have time to get one now...airlines do accept "alternative" I.D.  the BEST thing to do is CALL your specific airline and ask what they will accept.
