  1. As others have already mentioned, no moped will reach that speed.  A moped is speed limited to 30 mph / 50 km/h in every North American jurisdiction as far as I am aware.  A scooter on the other hand does not have that limitation.  There are 150, 250, 400 and even 650 cc scooters on the market.  Many of those are highway speeds capable.

  2. None. To repeat the others a little (laws vary depending on location):

    A moped is under 50cc, has pedals, and is capable of no more than 35mph on a flat surface. That's the legal definition of one where I live. And you must have a license, too. Operator's (auto), motorcycle, or moped only. Yes, we have a moped only license. And a motorcycle only license as well.

  3. most any 150cc+ scooter (refer to the link)

    i wouldn't expect to keep it at that speed....

    if you're looking for something that could do and hold freeway speeds, start looking into 250cc's

  4. Anything over 50 cc will require a motorcycle license.  So just get a motorcycle.  A 250 cc will get around 65-75 mpg.

  5. You can get a Kymco scooter that will go 55+ but you need to be old enough and have a license. And you need to take  a MSF course and wear helmet. You do not have to go up to a 250 for that speed. Kymco's have a 2yr  warranty and are rated the best in the world ahead of the j*p scooters. And it doesn't matter 50cc scooter or moped or motorcycle they are  a motor vehicle and need to be treated as such.

  6. The only one that will go 55 mph, is one that is in fact a motor assisted bicycle, and that only with you assisting the motor by about 20 mph.

    Most states define a moped as a two wheeled vehicle of under 50cc capacity and a max speed of 35. Some also insist that have they pedals, as well, for you to assist speed by pedaling.

    So a moped is an artificially created subset of a miniscooter, and by law, is limited in speed.

    You want to go 55 get a motorcycle or scooter license.

  7. Mopeds and small scooter are limited to 20 to 30 mph BY LAW (that does NOT require license).

    ===

    But there are other scooter that can go faster - but they require motorcycle license.

    All motorcycle company (Honda, yamaha, Kawasaki, etc.) makes 250 cc scooter (not moped) that can easily go 55 mph.

    good Luck...
