  1. well there are a lot of sword styles fencing i hate a lot because i think it is really boreing to watch and unlike most sports whicih are a lot more fun when you actually do them fencing isnt.

kendo and iaido are good from what i have tried i have also been told that battojutsu is really good.

  2. sport-fencing is a simplistic art where you can learn the basics pretty quickly. however it also contains a high level of complexity if it is explored.

so it can appeal to all.

  3. well there's fencing med-evil sword fighting, then there's sport fencing which is good for fun......... samurai sword fight is almost the same as med-evil sword fight but it also look Chinese so you have a medal ground on that.

  4. The "best" is entirely a subjective evaluation. What carries the most interest for you? Do you like the idea of using a european longsword and learning to fight with it? Then you'd probably be interested in Deutsche Fechtschule (German School of Fencing... Basically, any form of fencing based on Liechtenauer's writings). Are you more interested in Japanese swordsmanship? Then kenjutsu/kenpo (剣法 - "fencing", not 拳法 - the Chinese fist-fighting methods) would probably be more your thing. Are you more attracted to the rapier? Then fencing might be more up your alley.

Each have their benefits and nuances, and are extremely fun in their own rights. You should really consider what you're most interested in and see about giving it a try, then figure out what is "best" to you.

    Good luck, and happy hunting!

  5. Try Kendo or Iaido.

Both popular and good depending on the school.

  6. Salutations,

I honestly would never choose sword as the first weapon I train with. I would look into staff or spear first. then go from there. With so many books and DVD's available, you can sample many different options before you choose. I myself practice several internal styles of Kung Fu, and would suggest this as an excellent starting point. Peace to  you, in your enlightenment. Cheers

  7. I practice battojutsu, and have completed all of my learnings.  Battojutsu it the art of drawing the katana, and slaying an opponet in the least amound of moves needed.....if you have seen kenshin.....his style is a spin off of battojutsu/iaido.  kendo is the most well known form of japanese swordsmanship and is popular in the US.  European swordsmanship or fencing is also popular but more world wide.
