My mom just retired. Her bday is next month. I've been looking for a gift but she doesn't really need (or probably want) any more purses, jewelry, shoes, clothes, etc... and she has all the household stuff she could possibly want. Any idea's on what to get a newly retired person?

  8. When I was young my mom used to take me out on "mommy-monica days". We always went shopping, out to lunch, to the salon...and really spent time together. Last year I decided to treat her to the same sort of experience. She really enjoyed it and was shocked at how much I remembered all the little things like getting a cookie from the mall and the reastaurants that we always at at...but this time she got to pick everything. Maybe if you could remember something special that you did with your mom as a kid and treat her to it...it could become a very special day.

  9. I had recently attended a 50th birthday party for my friend's mother. In the party, my friend put up a tv and displayed a montage showcasing her mother's life (her younger days, marriage, kids, grandkids, retirement etc). The video was professionally made from still pictures and synchronized with music and a storyline... very sentimentally touching and made my friend's mom cry watching her whole life come up on the screen! I think it was a great gift for my friend's mom and very much appreciated by her. The DVD was custom-made by http://www.smilingsnaps.com and it cost less than $100 or so. Do check it out- Its awesome!
