  1. That's like a downpayment.

  2. you can move in with me for the bargain price of only $100,000

  3. If you want a flat in a nice area, you can expect to get a nice one to two bedroom apartment with balcony and about 60 to 90m² (depends on which amount of luxury you need) for ~180.000 (a bit less than 300.000 dollar) euro. The vibrant districts good for living are Mitte (most expensive, the real central area of berlin), Prenzlauer Berg (many nice old buildings, many yuppies in a area which was pretty rough 10 years ago), Kreuzberg (very hip but culture clash and also very poor people), Friedrichshain (the hip but rougher part of the city), Schöneberg and Charlottenburg (the latter two a bit calmer with older folks). Keep in mind though, that these areas are districts with about 200.000 inhabitants so they are like cities on their own with good and bad areas.

  4. You seriously expect people to give you the scouting services that professional realtors give for free?

There are many areas in Berlin with cafes, shops and parks - this is what Berlin is all about. $300,000 is about €190,000. For this amount you can get a small place (1 bedroom, etc.) in really fashionable places like Prenzlauer Berg; and several rooms in less fashionable, but rather nice areas, like Friedenau.

But I really recommend you'll address you question to Berlin realtors. You can try to see:

BTW - if you're an American you will also need a permit to reside in Germany

  5. maybe 1 bed 1 bath.
