Question:

What kind of a haunting would cause someone to feel numb?

My mom and uncle (when they were younger) have had strange experiences in my Grandparent's, or their parent's home. Their hands and legs would feel numb, then after a few minutes, it would feel like it's spreading to the rest of their body. This all happened in the basement. I've had weird experiences there as well. For one, when I was showering in the NEW shower my Grandpa had built, the lever was all the way to hot (the hot water had started to run out) and it went cold immediately. I went to turn it all the way to hot, but it was turned all the way to cold. I also felt a light breeze at about that same moment. Later that week, I was walking to the bathroom and my sister had left the light on. When I was walking to it, the light switched off. I have never conciously looked for anything paranormal in their house until last year (when this all happened). I think it knows that I've been looking for it.

What I'm asking is: What kind of a haunting is it?Intelligent or Demonic?

  1. I've felt a kind of "electrical" feeling around me when things  happened to me. Maybe that's the same feeling they had. As for your hot water... you need to check out all possible normal reasons for this first...and wait and see if it keeps happening.

  2. Sounds like a friendly haunting. Nothing too severe that would be classified as demonic. Just a playful apparition who probably wants attention. You should either ignore it or seek paranormal investigators to assist you if the problem persists.

  3. I am with TR on this. Search for some natural explanation first and I bet you find the cause. Ignoring something like gas and searching for ghosts can be very dangerous. I would get your grand parents to have someone come out an check the basement for toxic fumes.

  4. Next time you're in the basement, look at the ceiling, that is if it's not a finished basement.

If you notice a lot of wires all over the place, that could be the reason all of you feel strange when in the basement, because of the electromagnetic field.

Those fields will affect the rooms above it as well.

So if the circuit breaker box looks over loaded with wires, and other wires are piggy-backed off of other wires, then that may very well be the reason behind the feelings of being haunted.

Maybe hire an electrician to come in and do a sweep of the home to get a base line reading.

The water in the shower going cold suddenly and the lights turning off and on by themselves are odd occurrences that have happened to me in hotels when I travel.

And there always seems to be a tragic history with these locations.

So quiet possibly, you could have an "intelligent" force behind it.

I would get a voice recorder and start talking to it.

Ask for its name, age, when it lived in the home or on the property.

I would also tell it that it scares you, and that you don't want to feel scared or threatened by something you can't see or hear.

  5. It sounds like you strung a bunch of mysterious events together to come up with a basis for thinking you're haunted. I think these are just a list of unrelated events which probably have some natural explanation. Hands and legs feeling numb in the basement?  I'd suspect carbon monoxide leakage from the furnace. Since that was long ago I assume they replaced their furnace since then, but PLEASE recommend to your grandparents to install carbon monoxide detectors on all levels of their house. They are cheap nowadays.

The shower lever? You bumped it or you got confused which direction you turned it.  The light switched off?  The bulb blew, or the switch wasn't fully turned to the off position in the first place.

I'd encourage you to investigate any instance of mysterious behavior any time it happens with an open mind, and you'll probably find a natural explanation for it if you're willing to set aside the idea that it must be ghosts or demons at work.

  6. The numbness could be the result of emf sensitivity.  The water in the shower incident and the light sounds more like a traditional haunt or intelligent haunt.  Very few hauntings are demonic.  Not to say that they don't happen, but they are very uncommon and from what you have discribed, it does not fit the profile of a demonic haunt.

  7. It is most like Intelligent because it has not threating your state of being nor has it tried to harm you or be forceful.
