  1. Many large pickup trucks run on diesel as well.  Diesel is popular in Europe powering many passenger cars.  Diesel cars get more miles to the gallon because of its higher energy density.  Diesel engines require a fuel with a low flash point so gasoline or E85 could damage them.

Alternative fuels for diesel are bio-diesel and straight vegetable oil (greasel).

First there is bio-diesel.  This is where used cooking oil (usually free) is run through a chemical reaction.  It only requires two additional ingredients one of them available at your local hardware store.  After a couple of chemical tests the ingredients are mixed in a tank and a short time later you have a substance that resembles diesel fuel.  The advantage of this process is the car is not modified and the engine doesn't know the difference.  You just pour it in the tank and go.

Greasel is burning straight vegtable oil usually used.    A second fuel tank is installed along with a heating system tapped out of the radiator to heat up the oil.  The engine starts on real diesel and once everything is warmed up the fuel is switched to the vegetable oil.  The disadvantage is the vehicle is extensively modified so it wont work with modern electronically controlled engines or warranties.  It doesn't require any complex chemistry but does require a lot of filtering.  You can operate the system manually but it is highly recommended you use one of the control computers to make sure the right thing is done at the right time or you'll have to have some expensive repairs done to the fuel injector system.

The fun part is the exhaust smells like french fries or what ever was cooked in the used oil.

  2. Many euro cars like vw, bmw, saab, mercedes benz, etc.

    Pickup trucks do too.

Diesel is more efficient than unleaded and wastes less, but costs much more. Yes, you can make biodiesel run in certain trucks.
