I'm having trouble trying to get my son off the computer and away from the playstation. I would like to have him take some kind of lessons but he doesn't like any of my suggestions maybe someone can give me an idea that i haven't thought of.

  1. Think about what he enjoys besides those and find another outlet for him. I have a nine year old as well and he loves the computer too but I make him go outside and ride his bike or scooter for a while just to get some fresh air. We also take a few trips during the year to the mountains or the beach to do some hiking. He has two sisters that keep him busy in the make believe dept. too. They really love making a tent city in the florida room and act like they are camping. Good Luck with whatever you try. :o)

  2. What about volunteering at an animal shelter?

or a youth group at church once a week

    or guitar lessons

or swim lessons at a gym

I hope that gives you a few ideas!

  3. I would get him involved in some activities that his friends do. Sports are great, they're an outlet for energy and they build confidence and team work. I would try soccer, football, baseball, basketball, tennis, anything that some of his friends do that he likes. It may take a while for him to find a sport that he's really passionate about. My eleven year old step brother played soccer, baseball, basketball, martial arts, tons of different sports before he went out for football last year. He loves it so much! So, don't be aggravated if it takes him a little while to find something he loves to do, that's how most kids are! Hope this helped! Good luck!

  4. there is always sports, tennis, swimming, baseball, basketball, football, when i was nine years old my mother made me take tennis lessons, i starte4d to like it, but then my mother, got mad, and told the instructor off, and told him no way, how about horse back riding, there is alot he can do,  I TOO HAD A PROMBLEM WITH MY SON, ALL HE LIKE AT THAT AGE WAS WRESTLING, WWF, AND ALL THE HULK HOGAN STUFF, I COULDNT GET HIM TO STOP, SOO, I GOT HIM INVOLVED WITH BASBALLL AND FOOTBALL,

  5. He's nine - DON'T have trouble. Set a time limit and insist he sticks to it - and if he doesn't he gets no time on it at all the next day.

His life does not have to be filled with activities if he doesn't fancy them. Can't he go play outside, or build Lego, or read a book? Just put your foot down - it's not a choice of organised activities or Playstation/computer, it's a choice of organised activities or amusing himself.

  6. Sometimes you just have to make them go for awhile.  Would he do well with a team competitive sport like soccer, football, baseball?  Or would he do better at an individual sport like martial arts, swimming, gymnastics, dancing, track sports?

I think what you are doing is very wise.  I love playing my video games, but I keep fit too by doing karate, kickboxing, and racquetball.  It helps keep me balanced because I could literally spend all day playing on the computer.

    Good luck to you!

  7. First off I would like to state you can not force him to do martial arts if he does not want to, maybe it's not the thing for him. YOU can make him get off the computer and playstation by giving him a strict schedual with both of them. My nephew is 10 and loves his games and computer and he lives with me, He gets 1 hour a day split between the two or on one or the other and he chooses when he gets his hour, wheather it be after a day at the park, after dinner, after his bath before bedtime or whatever...BUT no longer then 1 hour, if he fights about it he gets it turned off and loses the hour the next day! You have to be in control and be set on the fact that he can not have more then a set time limit, kids these days are more intrested in technology then going outside and playing, so to get him away from the computer or game b/4 I came up with the time schedual I would tell him it's time to turn it off and we are going outside to play trucks, ball, soccer, anything he wants but the game/computer is off for the night and it's time to get some fresh air! You really have to work at it at first but it's worth it, he listens really well with the schedual now and I'm so proud of him for it! He also knows that auntie is not backing down on the time frame lol so that helps also. Good luck!

  8. Hello? Who is the parent here? Turn the d**n thing off! Try sports, music, art, go carts, magic, etc. Anything he is interested in. You as parents need to do something. UNPLUG.

  9. How about Soccer?

It's a great team sport. On most leagues everyone gets to play- no kid left out kind of sport. Most coaches require a certain number of minutes play for each kid regardless of skill level. Your son will learn soccer skills, cooperation and teamwork. He's probably gonna love it.

  10. Why are you having trouble getting your son off these things?  Don't  you know how to unplug them?  He really doesn't need to take some kind of lessons unless he is interested in a particular subject.  I would hazard a guess that you have never limited, supervised or monitored his time on the computer or game system and that isn't his fault.  You are supposedly the parent not him.  If you can't limit, monitor and supervise him then you are not doing your job as a parent so don't blame him for it.

  11. He could try football, wrestling, soccer, baseball, or karate. Play the piano, guitar, drums. Make a list of his options and let him choose. Tell him, he has a certain amount of time on the ps3 and if he doesn't choose SOME ACTIVITY (not necessarely one on the list) he wont have as much time. Let him know he will have a lot of fun and make some new friends. that arent virtual:] (You may not want to say that)Anyway, good luck.

  12. Well, what have you thought of already??

How about a sport - like soccer or baseball. Or maybe an instrument he could learn to play.

  13. karate

    baseball

    soccer

    boy scouts

    Bar-t
