What kind of aircraft headset is not too expensive, but good?

Christmas is going to be here before too long, and I'd like to ask my parents to get me my own headset. I don't want to kill them on the price, so I want to know what a good headset is that's not over about 400 dollars... :) Thanks

  1. David Clarks are good, and some of the models are not terribly expensive. (although it's been a while since I priced them out.)

I would urge you NOT to skimp on this part of your flying budget. If you have to surrender an hour or two of flying to make sure the rest of your flying hours are comfortable, do it.

I use a Bose headset, and they cost a small fortune, but I never feel like my head is in a vice either....

  2. Bose is probably the best.

But your question concerns price.  So I would look at David Clark's.

But if it does not bother you, check ebay or craigslist and see if anyone is selling a set.  You can by new ear jel covers a new mic cover and clean them up and make them look new and even with the new part save a buck or two.

    Good Luck

  3. I don't know what kind of aircraft you fly, but I fly a turboprop and use the Sennheiser HMEC-25. It has ANC (active noise reduction) and is very quiet to your ears while having better comfort than the larger headsets that totally cover the ears.

  4. I have a Dave Clark noise-cancelling headset.  It should be around 400 nowadays.  It was worth it flying in loud piston singles/twins.  Although the Bose is the best at $1000.
