  3. Thermometers used to use Mercury...but I believe they stopped b/c ppl would break the thermometers to get to the mercury.  Also, they have been banned from Medical use.  

    Mercury thermometers are still used today, but mostly by meteoroligists.  Some manufacturers use galinstan, a liquid alloy of gallium, indium, and tin, as a replacement.
