  1. As I understand it, the clown fish does not absolutely have to have an anemone as a companion.  Unless you are a very experienced marine aquarist, you should not be attempting to keep an anemone in a 10g tank.  The water volume is so small, it can go bad in just a few hours and kill everything you have in the tank.

A beginner should start with nothing less than a 50g tank.  Lighting is also very important for corals and anemones.  Actinic is the right kind, I think.  It is very expensive to maintain a tank with corals and anemones.  Constant water testing and water changes are a must.

You really should do a lot of research on marine aquariums and upkeep of them before you start and kill all your pets.  A good site to go to is "About.com", they have a saltwater start-up check list that is very thorough and will get you going the right way.

  2. Yes anemones need strong lighting and excellent water conditions and yes that tank will be difficult to do both. A bubble tip anemone would be a good choice. They require t5 high output or metal halide lighting. Also they need decent flow. Do some research and cost comparision to step up into a 29 gallon tank, that would be easier.

  3. True percula clowns need a 30 gallon aquarium.  Ocellaris clowns (False perculas and sometimes incorrectly called perculas) could get by with a 20.  Both false & true perculas host in carpet anemones in the wild. Carpet anemones are very difficult to keep and I don't recommend trying.  Anemones are NOT required for happy healthy clownfish.  If you want both an anemone and clowns you should get a clarkii, tomato or cinnamon and a bubble tip anemone (entacmaea quadricolor) but there again you are back to needing a minimum of a 30 gallon aquarium.

  4. It has been my experience that they love Bubble tips and long tentacles...but mine have also hosted condys....and there is no guarantee that they will even host it.   aside from that, clowns have a minimum requirement of 30 gallons....there are very few fish that you can keep in a 10 gallon like fire fish

  5. A Sebae or Carpet Anemone would be fine with your clown fish, but you must remember that they are animals and do have the ability to move around the tank until they find a place that pleases them.  All anemones sting.  Some you will not feel if you touch them, but if they touch your coral they will notice and become very upset.  What I would recommend trying for your first corals would be some mushrooms.  You can get them in  different sizes and colors and they don't seem to be bothered by anemones.  If that works out,           you could then go on to some zoanthids.  They stay small and if happy they will continue to grow slowly and can carpet entire areas of live rock.

Just remember that once you do get an anemone, please remember to feed it.  I have notice a lot of places that sell them and they don't think to mention that to people.  They do not eat flake food.  You can feed them frozen shrimp (mine prefers large chunks) or another type of high quality frozen food.

    Good luck with your tank
