What kind of animal research is involved in vet school

I am thinking of going to vet school. I have a bs in biology and went to grad school for pharmacology for a short time because I could not handle the animal research. I switched and got a MA in chemistry to avoid it. Thing is that I would love to become a vet. I love animals. I don't mind animal research if it is to save a life. The program I was in before basically did useless research for grant money. I don't mind working with animals or trying to save an animals life. Is vet school more hands on with working in a clinic with animals or just your basic animal research. I just feel if thousands of animals are being slaughtered for my education, I will feel that I am doing more wrong than I could ever do good.

  1. Vet school is working to understand physiology, pharmacology, and saving lives.  You will study anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and then rounds where you actually act as a veterinarian.  There are research projects if you want to be involved, but for the most part it is classes and study.  I think the research has a completely different goal than you have been involved in.  Not to say it won't have it's sad moments, but thousands sacrificed for money, no way.  Veterinarians take an oath to help animals and prevent suffering.  My husband's class was at K-state was around 200 people.  Once you graduate you can control your destiny from there.
