These ordinary-looking little black ants often do ordinary ant activities, such as swarming a piece of food, etc. But they can also run much faster than ordinary ants can. They sometimes dart left and right while running, as if the evade a predator, even when one is not chasing them. Ant dust bothers them a lot and they avoid it, but ant baits seem to have no effect on them, and they seem to just eat the bait and enjoy it, day after day, with an ant trail going to the bait till it's all gone.
I thought they might be Argentine ants, but those are mostly in warm places. I read that it would be unlikely for them to be in a place that has cold winters. We have moderately cold winters here.
