Question:

What kind of area is Wood Green?

I'm asking in terms of crime mainly. I know that crime can happen anywhere any time, but there are rough areas and better areas. Let's just say that Hackney or Hammersmith are rough, for example. And that Lancaster Gate or Fulham aren't. Please don't take offense if you live there, I'm only giving example as to the nature of answers I seek.

Many thanks.

  1. hmm...I personally don't think the crime in wood green is that bad.

but my mum did get her purse nicked about 15 years back in wood green.

but seriously, it's become better since then - i quite like the area to be honest.

  2. Its a city centre skyscraper.

  3. I live fairly close to Wood Green and have shopped there for many years, it's a good middle-of-the-road shopping area (not trendy, but has got all the usual high street stores) ... it's also got very good transport links, there's the Piccadilly Line tube stations at both Turnpike Lane and Wood Green, and just about every bus in this area goes through Wood Green

the crime rate is sort of in the middle somewhere I guess ... not the highest and not the lowest ... a lot depends on why you're asking the question ... if you mean for living I wouldn't want to live too close to the High Street ... if you mean for shopping then during the day is mostly fine ... if you mean in the evening I'd be much more hesitant, there can be bunches of kids hanging out there and I don't like the atmosphere after 6.00pm (OK so I'm older but I didn't like the atmosphere up there in the evening even when I was younger) ... when my kids were teenagers they didn't like going up there much either because of the bunches of kids that tend to hang out there, they preferred to go to Muswell Hill, Crouch End and other places

there are some lovely areas not too far from Wood Green ... generally the areas to the west are "posher" than those to the east

  4. Very Dodgy!!!!!!!!!

  5. i wouldn't live there, someone got stabbed when i went their.

  6. wow wood green I wooden live there, crime crime crime

  7. I work there & I shop there on the weekends occasionally.

It is rough & it has a reputation but you don't have to live on the High Road.  Up around Alexandra Palace Station, there are some lovely houses, especially up towards Alexandra Palace.  There's a great pub called The Gate opposite Alexandra Park Station.  This link shows where the pub is but the streets around it are where I'd go for, there are Council offices on Cumberland Road & Station Road though.

the number 29 bus that goes to wood green area has the worst crime rate in britain...its that bad!
