What kind of beans are used in American baked beans?

I cant figure out which variety of beans are used to make American baked beans! I know they are not kidney beans....

There are brown beans,the most popular canned beans.

But I think that yellow eye beans are the true baked bean.

Pork and beans.  However, I use a mixture of pork and beans, black beans, butter beans, cooked chopped bacon, chopped onion, maybe some chopped green pepper, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, salt and pepper, vinegar

There is some variation but Navy Beans are the most common, and the most traditional I believe. Navy beans are small white beans, a little smaller than a pinto. Careful when shopping because they are often packaged with ham flavor. That can be good, but if you want to season them yourself you want them without any flavoring.
