  1. The benefits sometimes depend on the school and district that you work at. I'll tell you right now that you shouldn't go into education for money, summers off and weekends. Reality check - your evenings will be spent on correcting papers, emailing parents and planning. Your summer will be about 1 month.  You will be a professional development workshops and working in your classroom either setting up or taking down.

    Benefits:

    1. You will make a difference in a child's life. You can be their hope.

    2.  You will work with the people (teachers) who honestly could do a better job running this country than the president and his crew.  Educators now are some of the most educated and democratic people out there.  I know in my state it takes so much education to become a teacher and to keep your certificate - it weeds out the lazies who are in it for the wrong reason.

    3.  Work is enjoyable. You get to work with people and children.

    4.  My district has EXCELLENT health care benefits.

    5.  Discounts on stuff - books especially

    6.  The community will look up to you. Even though we aren't paid very much, I've got to say that people hold you to a higher standard when they find out you are a teacher.

    7.  You will always be a learner!

  2. Well the one big benefit is getting the summer off but seriously I guess the benefits of teaching are that you get to teach kids and be an influence to them.

  3. Usually you get a group insurance plan that includes your prescriptions.  Some districts have dental insurance included.  You will be a member of the teacher retirement system of your state.  When you retire, you will still receive a salary.  In my state the retirement salary is based on the average of my highest two years of salary.  I also still am part of the state insurance system.

In some states you can be a member of a union.  I do not know what that is like because I do not live in a state like that.  You can also have access to a credit union.

You do get vacation time, depending on your district.  I my state you get one week in the fall, one week at Christmas, and one week in the spring.  You get approximately 2 months in the summer.

You get free training through your school district.  Some districts help you get an advanced degree.

I once had a suit brought against me for a decision I made.  My district backed me up, provided me with an attorney, and everything turned out all right.

The greatest benefit you get is the joy of teaching students and helping them grow and flourish.  You may not always know how all your students end up, but you often do.  It's worth the work anyway.
