  1. About the only advantage to a road bike is that it will go faster and use less of your energy than another bike.  That's because it will have smaller tires and therefore less road friction.  That's only important though if your commute to school is long.  Bad thing about the small, high-pressure tires on road bikes is that they need to be inflated often and are more susceptible to road hazards.  There are lots of really good hybrid bikes that work well on the road and off.  The tires are a little bigger and more durable, PLUS you can "cool it up" a lot better than you can a road bike.  Another HUGE advantage is that you can get a good hybrid for a fraction of the cost of a road bike.  Suggest you go to a dealer who sells multiple brands.  Some bikes will fit you better than others, but a dealer who sells but one brand will try to put you on their bike, whether it's right for you or not.  Good luck!
