  1. Drake bindings are great.  They're traditional strap bindings but the toe strap is long enough you can throw it over the end of your boot like a cap strap or use it over the top conventionally.  The parts are all super solid and are what they use at the repair shop at the mountain when people's bindings break.

Step in look cool and fast but they're a pain in the butt and can be unreliable.

There's also another kind available now called "Flow" that have a single piece attached with the quick release straps that goes over the top of your foot (filling in the area between straps on normal bindings) and then you put them on by flipping the heel piece down and then that clicks back into place.  It looks like a good idea because it's so simple and fast but I wouldn't buy it because you put so much pressure on your heel and no other company has ever marketed a product like this.

Bindings aren't cheap so go with something that's tried tested and true.

  2. if you are considering step-in versus strap on, go with strap on.

i like the capstrap that Burton uses on their bindings that straps in the foot over the tip of the toe rather than on top of the front of the foot.  it reduces numbness and holds foot in the binding better by forcing the heel to the back of the binding.

if you want freestyle, you should go with a lighter binding, or if you want freeride, you should get one with more support.

http://www.dogfunk.com/ is a site with an unlimited return policy (if you dont like it, you can return it for a full refund, no matter when it is. all you have to do is pay the shipping to sent it back) and good customer service.  You can chat online with customer service.
