My boyfriend and I discovered this animal at a local park. It is the only one amongst ducks and geese. What is it? Below is a picture of it.

  1. That is a guinea. When I was younger there was a pair that would wander around our neighborhood. They are kind of like a mix of a turkey and a chicken.

  2. This is not a chicken.  It is a Guinea Fowl.  Wonderful birds and lovely to watch.  They originate from Africa.

  3. guinea bird

  4. It looks like some sort of chicken to me

  5. Its a guinea bird or fowl. (goes by either name)  I have seen them before in Arkansas. Type that into a search engine and click images and you can see more of them.

  6. Hi,

Its a guinea fowl, don't know if its spelt correct, it has probably escaped or been dumped as they aren't native to england only kept as pets.

  7. That is a Guinea Fowl.  Contrary to what another responder said, you can not tell their sexes based on their color.  They are not a dimorphic species.

They are hardly, smallish birds that make a very odd "buck-wheat" sound.  They make excellent "watchbirds" and sound the alarm when there is someone or something strange prowling around.

They are great for insect control and prefer ticks over any other source of food!

  8. Quail.

  9. It looks like some kind of guineafowl to me, of course it would depend on what part of the country you're in, since they're more common to find in certain places (they're a released game bird).

    It's definitely a bird.

  10. Looks like a grouse to me.

  11. That is a guinea fowl. Probably a hen since the males are usually more colorful.

You can see pics of them by googling guinea fowl and then clicking on images at the top of the screen. Wikipedia also has nice articles/pics.
