What kind of bird makes this sound? Sooey, hoot-hoot-hoot?

I am wondering if it is some sort of owl and if anyone knows more specifically? It starts out like a pig call Soo-eee then three slow hoots. I know it's a weird question but would appreciate if anyone is able to help.

An owl but there's no way of telling what kind unless we know where you live.

From your discription it sounds like a great horned owl.

I have heard the sound many times.  It is not an owl.  It is a bird called a mourning dove.  The bird gets its name from its sad sounding call.

A mourning dove resembles a small pigeon or rock dove.  Its a very cool bird.  They eat seeds, but the babies drink milk from a special gland in the mothers throat.  You can often see them feeding on the ground.
