What kind of birds are these? (Southern California)?

I was hoping someone could identify the breed/species of two types of bird that I took photographs of. The pictures were taken a few days ago at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, California. I would really like to know what they are so that I can learn more about them.
