What kind of birds are these?

A friend of mine lives in the high desert in Nevada,and these birds have a nest and three young in her garage.We cannot figure out what they are. She says that the male appears to have a small crest on his head when excited,They are shaped like a bluebird,but of course they are not blue.Does anyone know what these mystery birds are?
