What kind of bits do paint horses use?

I am buying a paint horse but i don't really know what bit to use, or what kind of extra bits to buy. I am kind of getting confussed by all the different ones!!

  1. Paint horses could use any kind of bit. Ask the people you bought him/her from and ask what kind of bit they used on the horse. Good Luck!


  2. A paint is the color of the horse, not the breed. Ask the people you are buying him from what kind they have used on him in the past, if they have even used one. I have worked with many horses who have never had a bit in their mouths. It is really personal preference.

  3. it doesnt matter what color it is, paint is just a color, not a breed. you could have a half clydesdale paint, or a shetland paint. ask the owner what hes using.

  4. It has nothing to do with colour.

    Ask the owner what bit he is in now, if he's going well in it then don't change it! If he's not going well in it, ask your instructor to suggest some based on an assessment of your horse.
