What kind of blanket that is safe and cheap you use for shipping your horse?

Why bother rugging your horse if it is the summer.

I would deffinately recommend good travel boots and a pole guard.

This should be the only added safety precation when hauling a horse.

Any medium weight stable blanket would be ok to trailer a horse in, assuming you mean in an enclosed trailer in the winter. In the summer you don't need a blanket, and if you use one there's a real good chance that your horse will overheat and be quite uncomfortable. If you are trailering in a stock style or open trailer in the winter you might prefer to use a heavyweight turnout-style blanket that is water and wind proof to keep your horse warm and dry.

BTW, a "cheap blanket" is just exactly that...spend a bit more on a recognized brand or a brand that you know ( from friends or stable buddies) to be well made. You'll be glad you did when it dosen't fall apart after one season.  Kodiaks for instance are very good and reasonably priced turnouts that wear like iron. I have found on the other hand that Weathabeetas are not nearly as good and they are pricey and don't wear well at all.

I don't think that there is any such thing as a cheap horse blanket.  Not one that will survive a hauling trip.  My question would be why bother with a blanket if it is summer...The horse will be in an enclosed trailer, with other horses no doubt...it will be hot enough in the trailer why make the horse any more uncomfortable with a blanket.  If you did use a blanket, it would probably not make the trip, it would be ruined if it did make the trip from dirt, urine, wear and tear...and who would be taking this blanket off and on or would the horse be wearing it during the whole trip.  Sorry I think it is unnecessary and a waste of time and money and not doing anything for the horse.  JMO
