  1. Heptene has a C=C double bond.

Alkenes have a double bond. Alkynes have a triple bond. Alkanes have all single bonds.

  2. The unsaturated, straight (normal) chain called 'Alkenes' have one double bond in their structure Their general formula is CnH(2n+2).

Normal Heptene (n-C7H14), has 6 single bonds and 1 double bond.

The following, with the double bond on Carbon # 4 is called 4-heptene (or Hept-4-ene).

The double bond can also be on Carbon 1, 2, or 3.

With 4-Heptene, (shown below), the double bond is on the 4th Carbon from the left.

In this case, the Heptane chain, due to the double bond, has lost 2 Hydrogens to form the 4-heptene. Here Carbons 4 and 5 lose an 'H' from the Heptane structure.

    Alkenes are also called 'Olefins'.

    C6H14.

    CH3-CH2-CH2-CH=CH-CH2-CH3.

    Alkanes..Saturated single bond.

    Alkenes..Unsaturated with 1 double bond.

    Alkynes..Unsaturated with 1 triple bond.

    Alka-dienes..Unsaturated, with 2 double bonds.

Cyclo-alkanes (or Naphthenes)...Saturated, single bond. ring structure.

Cyclo-alkenes..(Cyclo-Olefins)..Unsatu... 1 double bond, ring structure.

Cyclo-dienes..As above, with 2 double bonds.

    Aromatics..Based on the Benzene Ring.
