Question:

What kind of bones are these?

I almost feel silly asking, but... this has been bugging me for a few days.. My kids & I found these bones, out in the open, in our city park. The site is a grassy area that leads to woods, across the main road from the playground. We stopped to feed some feral cats and some friendly raccoons and saw the bones lying in the middle of the mowed grassy area. I'm wondering if they are animal bones? My logic tells me that they must be nothing to worry about since the area had been recently mowed and I figure if they were not animal bones, the park maintenance folks would have seen them as they mowed. The thing that bugged me is the 'clean' break across what I guess to be a leg bone?

  1. Yeah, don't worry about it.

They look like animal bones, but if it worries you- notify the park mantinence.

    EDIT: Grammar was horrible.

  2. My guess is that somebody had a picnic in the park and didn't properly clean up the remains of the fried chicken.

  3. It's really hard to tell what size the bones are without anything to compare them to. They look as though they've been there quite a long time, and the broken bone could easily have happened after the animal died (maybe even from being run over by the lawn mower)!

If you're worried that the bones maybe from a human/child, I'd suggest taking them to a museum to see if they can identify them.

    Good luck.
