I am looking for a horse and I am thinking about the things I should buy for it. I've noticed that many jumpers wear boots, even when schooling. My trainer doesn't use them, but should I?

More things I'd like to know-

sizes

price

style

recommended brands or boots

if you'd like an example of me jumping go here:

I'm jumping a bit higher than that now though

  1. I recommend boot for your horse because they protect the bones from knocking against each other and the jump. I suggest splint boots. and it depends on the size of your horses legs. prices, they can cost anywhere from 100-15. I recommend Dover or state line when buying boots. Davis is a good brand and so is professionals choice but those can run a bit spendy.

  2. Normally If you are doing JUMPERS i would recommend open front boots such as Eskadrons. If  you really want is best I recommend  Sport Medicine Boots II AKA SMB II  they are by Professionals Choice. I currently own 3 Pairs of front and Back in Black

  3. What you'd need are splint boots. They help protect/support the horses legs when jumping. Prevents scraping, and cushions the tendon. The size obviously depends on the size of your horses legs. Just look online at different brands or even talk to an employee at a tack store.

  4. You definitely want open front jumping boots. This way, when the horse hits the jump they can still feel it and know to pick their feet up higher. There are TONS of options. You can go from bottom line WeatherBeeta neoprene boots for ~$30 to top-line Equi-Fit T-Boots or ThinLine boots, Eskadrons, etc, that can cost up to $500 for a full set (front and ankle(back) boots). I have T-boots now and I love them, except that they're hard to take care of. I'm thinking of trying the ThinLine boots next.

  5. I would suggest the veredus nero carbon gel open horse boots. they are 169 dollars but they are worth it. you can get them on doversaddlery.com but they are only the front boots they also have the back boots too. well good luck with finds some good boots. i hope i helped. Sabrina

  6. You won't know what boots you really need until you find a horse.  There is no universal answer.

Many jumper riders choose to use boots simply because they have seen others do it and they have no clue as to weather they are the right boot for their horse or not.  Many horses need no boots at all.

  7. I agree with open front boots.  I love eskadrons but they are pricey.

BUT if your trainer doesn't suggest them you probably don't need them.  One of my old horses actually jumped worse with boots or polos on.  If it's not broken, don't fix it ;)

  8. I use open front jumper boots. I just went ahead and splurged and got some really nice Woof boots from dover, although I'm sure you could find some for cheaper.
