The picture at the top on the right is the clearest of it. I have seen all sorts of contraptions and pointless things on a horses face, but never this? Is that a separate rein that goes form her hand to the noseband?

I'm not looking for speculation, i can speculate what it might be used for myself, but can someone tell me what it is called? Or if not, if in fact the noseband is attached to a separate rein? Thanks!

  1. looks like a rope caveson.

 if its attached to the bit/rein it could be some way to keep th ehorses nose down and not poking out. Thats my best guess. I'd never use it as that just looks painful

    *edit*

i actually am not seeing a bit or anything, so maybe its a hackamore? not a pelham though, i've used one before an dnope not that

  2. I guess it is like a hand held bitting rig!!

Not to be funny...but here are some pictures of what other "things" they have to offer.  I think Paso's are nice and very pretty..but the training methods....rather..well..they dig holes and the horses step into them so they do their gait but yet can't move.  Those feet going a mile a minute and no place to go..  I guess the rest of it just adds to the methodology..and glamour of "Spanish" style riding!!

    ***Edit***

That IS NOT a pelham bit..that is more like a fancy schmany "walking horse" type of curb. It actually looks like some sort of gag bit. She is not riding with two reins..but rather there is something from the cavesson to her hand for collection.

Here is a picture of a Pelham...

  3. the good kind

  4. They are riding this horse with two reigns, but instead of two bit's it looks like the top reign is attached to a sidepull headstall which usually has a rope nose band like the one in question, and the bottom reign is attached to a shanked bit of some kind.

  5. It's a pelham.

The bit has two attachments to the reins, not the noseband

  6. I couldn't get a good look at it through the pic... but the noseband looks like a sidepull.  Although the one that I used on my horse had an integrated bit... so there weren't two sets of reins.  May be using it like a tie down.  We owned a paso fino years ago... they had a tendency to come off the ground a lot.
