What kind of bug is this? (description)

Question

I was at the store, came out to my car and there was this huge green leafy looking bug. It's wings looked like leaves and it was a spring green color. It was big, had antennas and didn't fly away... it stayed on my car for several miles! What might this be? I thought a praying mantis at first, but I looked it up and I don't think it's that.
