Ok so two times now starting about a week ago I was outside on my balcony with my husband and saw a bee crawling around these tiny holes in a table we have. We kept shooing it away.. It was small , black, and had whitish stripes. Two days later I was talking to him about it, looked over at the holes and noticed that 6 of the 100 holes were covered compleltly with sand or something. So curisouly we took a toothpick and dug into the hole, Only to find that beneath the sand was 5 to 8 green some reddish catipillar lookin thingys very very small... These holes are EXTREAMLY small... maybe like a lil bigger then O ...<<that lol...and not deep at all... I want to know what these are. I am 7 months pregnant I have a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old and my husband is extreamly allergic to bees. If you have an idea what this is please let me know!!! Oh and we live in ONTARIO CANADA

  1. First is it a bee or a fly?  With 2 wings it is a fly, with 4 a bee. There are many varieties of bees that make solidarity nest as you describe.  If you want to keep them away from your balcony all you need to do is build a nest site a short distance away that is out of reach of your kids.  I did this with some that were nesting in woodwork I was making and they never bothered me after that.  Just drill similar sized holes in a piece of wood and attach it to the eave away from your balcony.  It would be better if  you can fill the holes in the table, but even if you do not they will still prefer the site where there is little activity.
