What kind of business can be started to help our struggling downtown area?

It seems like our downtown goes from 11:00am-1:00pm and then dies. I want to start my own business, but I also want to use my business in a way that will help downtown, and be of service to the community...any ideas?

An after-school, community center for kids would be perfect!  and people could donate things to help the charity grow!

Drive around and see what the town has. Like if there are 6 steakhouses downtown it wouldnt be a good idea to open a steakhouse. Try to think of what isnt there and everyone will come flocking in to get your product. If you want more night life try a club or something. Not just a bar where people get plastered because that wouldnt really be better for the community. Something like karaoke, Poetry readings, comedy club or something like that.
